Robin Goodfellow B.Sc., FIOM, CFPIM
Robin gained a 2.1 Special Honours Degree in Chemistry
from Bristol University.
He first worked for Rolls-Royce Bristol Engine Division in their
Organization and Methods Department, that became the Management Services
Department, supporting systems for the Supplies Department, that was responsible
for the provisioning of spares for Bristol and Coventry Rolls-Royce aero
engines around the world.
He joined Burroughs in 1970, as a Systems
Analyst, and worked in pre- and post-sales situations in commercial and
manufacturing companies. He first attended an MRP course in 1970, when Burroughs
launched their first MRP system, PCS, in the UK. He has maintained involvement
with MRP systems ever since.
He moved to Burroughs' head office in 1973,
with initial responsibility for the support nationwide of PCS, then for a
wider range of software, and then for the support and distribution of all
application software within the UK.
He then became a District Support Manager for the northern half of
the UK, with responsibility for small and medium systems, spread across 6
branches.
He moved onto the sales and marketing side of the business, first
as a promotion manager for manufacturing systems, and then as an account
manager for some major manufacturing accounts, including Ferranti and GEC.
When Burroughs became a line of business organization
in 1981 he was an industrial consultant, and supported the sales of the then
current MRPII product from Burroughs, TMS - The Manufacturing System - whose
development he had been closely involved with. He was moved back to head
office to be responsible for the marketing of MRPII and Shop Floor Data
Collection systems in 1983.
Due to the worldwide interest in TMS he was moved to Burroughs' world
headquarters in Detroit, in 1984, to support and market TMS worldwide, outside
the USA. TMS notched up a total of 115 sales worldwide, representing more
than 1000 modules of software, including Europe, Africa, Australia and Japan.
He guided the evolution of TMS into BAMCS, and this product was marketed
worldwide from 1985, with Robin heavily involved in it's program
management.
He returned to the UK in 1987, after Burroughs
had merged with Sperry to form Unisys, and was responsible for MRPII marketing
in the UK, which included 3 products - BAMCS, UNIS from Sperry, and MTMS,
a 3rd party product from BEC in Blackburn.
He left Unisys in 1989, after a total of 19
years, and set up on his own to provide top quality education, training,
consultancy, advice, and project management in the manufacturing and MRPII
marketplace.
From 1989 he traded initially as Robin Goodfellow, and then established
Manufacturing Business Excellence, MBE. We have been operating successfully
for more than twelve years.
