Course Specification
Course Objectives :
To understand the basic principles and concepts of Material Requirements
Planning, MRP.
To realise the 5 or 6 major elements of data that are inputs to MRP,
and the high levels of data accuracy that are
required for MRP to work well.
To understand the details of the calculations of MRP - nothing more than
simple arithmetic.
To recognise the various outputs that can be generated by MRP.
To understand the refinements that may be put in place, beyond the MRP basics.
To realise that the need for MRP will vary in differing manufacturing
environments.
To begin to understand how to work with MRP in practice,
and to realise the performance measures that are needed
to monitor MRP performance.
Course Content :
Introductions and course objectives.
An overview of the concepts and principles of MRP - traditional inventory
replenishment,
its evolution into MRP, the basic maths, MRP as
a network, firm planned orders.
MRP inputs - the master production schedule, MPS, inventory and open order
numbers,
planning parameters, (routings), and bills of
material.
A review of the impacts of data accuracy impacts
upon the trust of the MRP outputs
MRP logic, and manual MRP exercise
MRP outputs - action messages, suggested purchase requisitions and planned
manufacturing orders
MRP refinements -scrap factors, pegging, net change
MRP in various manufacturing environments -
make to stock, process industry, projects and
others -
and consideration of MRP and JIT working together
Working with MRP, and performance measurement
Conclusions and course evaluation
Quiz questions as the course proceeds
Course Duration :
2 days.
Recommended for :
All those who 'touch' MRP - sales people, order servicing people, the master
scheduler(s), all those who look after inventory and open order numbers,
people who establish inventory ordering policies and lead times, whoever
is responsible for the bills of materials and routings, the planners who
process action messages, the people who deal with the plans produced by MRP,
and all those who need to have an understanding of the logic at the heart
of MRPII and ERP.
Prerequisites :
A general understanding of the ways in which a manufacturing concern operates.
